plus his experience as a prosecutor, as a defense attorney and his
experience on non-criminal cases give him a uniquely balanced view from
the bench.
In his time as District Court Judge he has participated in extensive
changes, including the addition of a third District Court Judge position
and the increasing workloads brought about with the opening of the new
jail in 2017.
With growth comes challenges such as fully integrating the new off-site
jail courtroom, the initiation of remote video court appearances for
inmates, and the added time constraints associated with an
ever-increasing jail population. As part of the team in District Court,
Judge Verge will continually re-examine the court system so he can best
serve Skagit County citizens while preserving tax resources.
Skagit County is home to the Verge family. Judge Verge grew up and
graduated high school here and his daughters also graduated from Mount
Vernon High School. His wife, Cindy, is the director of the Tulip
Festival.
