Statement: Reelection is my opportunity to help you learn how your courts work and what to look for when voting for an appellate judge. Appeal is a fundamental right to review. On appeal, three appellate judges review mainly superior court trials. We decide if evidence sufficiently supports outcomes, if the trial judges’ discretionary rulings are fair, and if the judges have correctly interpreted and applied the law. The Supreme Court’s nine justices may grant discretionary review of our decisions. Judges must respect individual human dignity. Every case is important and deserves competent, consistent, and compassionate review from patient, dignified, and courteous judges. Seek hard working, independent, deliberative, and decisive judges who will follow our formal code of ethical conduct. Expect principled and fair judges who, strive for equal justice under the rule of law. Demand courageous judges who can make even unpopular decisions when applying the law to facts. Washington judges have a remarkable public service tradition. My aim, with your help, is to live up to these standards and traditions to make a positive difference in the quality of life for my family, community, state, and nation while continuing to serve you as a Court of Appeals Judge.
