Washington Supreme Court

Supreme Court justices are elected to six-year terms by voters throughout the entire state. There are nine Supreme Court justices, and Washington residents will vote for four in 2014.


Position 1: Mary Yu is the incumbent. She is running for re-election without opposition.


Position 3: Mary Fairhurst is the incumbent. She is running for re-election without opposition.


Position 4: Charles W. Johnson is the incumbent. He is being challenged by Eddie Yoon.


Position 7: Debra L. Stephens is the incumbent. She is being challenged by John (Zamboni) Scannell.


 

Court of Appeals

Division One, District One

(King County)

District One elects eight judges; Positions 1, 5, and 6 will be on the 2014 general election ballot in November.

Judge Michael Trickey was appointed to Position 1 by the Governor. He is running without opposition to complete his term. He will have to run again in 2016 for a full term.


Judge Linda Lau is the Position 5 incumbent. She is running for re-election without opposition.


Judge Ann Schindler is the Position 6 incumbent. She is running for re-election without opposition.


 

Superior Court

Superior Court judges are elected to four-year terms; most were elected in 2012, and their terms extend through the end of 2016.

John Ruhl, John Chun, Tanya Thorp, Chad Allred, Julia Garratt, and Roger Rogoff were appointed by the Governor to fill vacant positions on the King County Superior Court. Because nobody filed against them, they received Certificates of Election after filing week. These positions will not appear on the ballot, but the judges will be up for election again in 2016.


 

District Court

District Court judges are elected to four-year terms, and all District Court positions are up for election in 2014. King County is divided geographically into five electoral districts; voters elect judges in the electoral district where they reside.

The following races will appear on the November ballot. The rest of the races are uncontested.

Seattle Municipal Court

All Seattle Municipal Court positions are up for election this year. The following candidates (incumbents in bold) have filed. Positions 2 and 7 will appear on the November ballot. The other positions are uncontested.
