Experience: Superior Court Commissioner for seven years, nine years
Municipal Court Judge, twenty one years District Court Judge Pro Tem,
Twenty six years private attorney with approximately 100 jury trials.
Other Professional Experience: Washington State Judicial College.
Leadership Walla Walla, DOC Leadership, Washington Agriculture
Leadership, DARE graduation speaker. Community College Business Law
Instructor.
Education: Idaho State University BA Academic Honors, University of
Idaho Law Degree.
Community Service: Past Board President Lillie Rice Center, Blue
Mountain Action Council and Walla Walla County Bar Association. Past
United Way Board member. YMCA youth sport coach eight years. Volunteer
High School DUI prevention program "Every 15 Minutes."
Statement: Our community is experiencing violence at a level not
seen before. An experienced judge in criminal justice is critical for
public safety. Those who commit crimes must be held accountable. Crime
victims have a voice by law and the public is best protected by
enforcing the law.
Mr. Wernette has served as a Municipal Court Judge for nine years and a
Superior Court Commissioner for seven years. He has been a District
Court Judge Pro tem for twenty one years. As a Judge, his focus is on
the fair administration of justice, individual accountability and public
safety. Mr. Wernette has practiced law for twenty six years emphasizing
family and criminal law, the same cases that take up approximately 80%
of a Superior Court Judge's time. He is a respected attorney and judge.
Richard grew up on a family farm and learned early the importance of
family, hardwork, integrity and community involvement. He has served our
community as a judge, attorney, and civic volunteer.
A Judge makes life changing decisions for people and the community. Mr.
Wernette has the judicial experience, the right legal expertise,
integrity, temperament, and common sense judgment to admirably serve as
your Superior Court Judge.
