12 years. Chief Judge, Family/Juvenile Court Improvement Program; Chair,
Superior Court Judges Association's Family and Juvenile/Legislative
Committees; Family Court Presiding Judge; Washington State Judicial
College, Instructor; Juvenile Court Presiding Judge.
Other Professional Experience: Prior to 12 years as a Superior
Court Judge, attorney for 21 years. Former partner, Eisenhower &
Carlson, 1986-2000.
Education: UCLA School of Law, JD; University of Washington, BA;
Wilson High School, Tacoma.
Community Service: Court Appointed Special Advocate Board. Other:
Multicare Foundation Board, Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community
Foundation Board, Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board,
Tacoma Rotary #8, Municipal League.
Statement: Judge Kathryn Nelson is a very experienced, valued,
and trusted member of the Pierce County Superior Court Bench who merits
re-election. For 12 years now, Judge Nelson has developed a respected
reputation throughout our community because of her commitment to the law
and her exceptional ability to ensure that all parties are guaranteed a
fair trial.
Born and raised in Pierce County, Judge Nelson believes our judges have
a commitment to our community that extends far beyond the Courtroom.
Active in numerous community service and charitable organizations, Judge
Nelson is committed to raising public awareness of and improving the
legal system.
On the bench, Judge Nelson works every day to make certain justice is
firm, fair, and timely. Judge Nelson’s fairness and dedication to
children and families, the law, and the community reflect the values of
law-abiding citizens. Judge Kathryn Nelson’s hard work, integrity,
fairness, and understanding of the law make her an outstanding judge.
