Sanders for Supreme Court

June 29, 2012 — We encourage voters to support Richard Sanders’ bid to return to the Washington Supreme Court.

Sanders, 67, is running for the seat being vacated by Yakima Valley native Tom Chambers. Because of the way Supreme Court elections are conducted in this state, this race may be decided during the primary election.

Sanders is an intelligent and independent jurist. His judicial philosophy is generally conservative, but he is really more of an maverick libertarian.

Sanders is a former Supreme Court justice, but was defeated for reelection in 2010. He was edged out largely because of a comment he made on the campaign trail that was inaccurately interpreted by much of the mainstream media as racist, even though the justice quickly explained and apologized for his misstatement.

Sanders has shown himself to be a smart, conservative and independent jurist. He is endorsed by Justice Chambers, the state Republican Party, the state’s Realtor association, the National Rifle Association and the Association of Washington Business. He deserves to be returned to our state’s highest court.
