Washington Supreme Court

Supreme Court justices are elected to six-year terms by voters throughout the entire state. There are nine Supreme Court justices, and Washington residents vote for three in 2012.

Supreme Court candidates appeared on the primary election ballot on August 7, 2012. Candidates who received more than 50% of the votes cast in the primary will appear on the general election ballot without opposition. If no candidate received more than 50% in the primary, the top two candidates appear on the general election ballot on November 6, 2012.

Position 2: Susan Owens is the incumbent. Because she received over 50% of the votes in the primary, she will appear on the general election ballot unopposed.

Superior Court

Superior Court judges are elected to four-year terms. Most Superior Court positions throughout Washington are up for election in 2012.

If only one candidate runs for a Superior Court position in a county with a population of more than 100,000, that candidate receives a Certificate of Election, and the position will not appear on either the primary or the general election ballot. If there are two or more candidates for a position, a candidate receiving more than 50% of the votes in the primary receives a Certificate of Election. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes in the primary, the top two candidates advance to the general election.

Department 7 is an open position. Four candidates ran in the primary; the top two will appear on the general election ballot:
