Klickitat County
Washington Supreme CourtSupreme Court justices are elected to six-year terms by voters throughout the entire state. There are nine Supreme Court justices, and Washington residents will vote for three in 2010. Supreme Court candidates appeared on the primary election ballot. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the votes cast in the primary, that candidate appears on the general election ballot without opposition. If no candidate receives more than 50% in the primary, the top two candidates appear on the general election ballot on November 2, 2010. Position 1: Jim Johnson is the incumbent. He received more than 50% of the primary votes, so he will be unopposed in November.
Jim Johnson Position 5: Barbara Madsen is the incumbent. She is running for re-election without opposition.
Barbarra Madsen Position 6: Richard Sanders is the incumbent. He and Charlie Wiggins received the most votes in the primary, so they will be in a runoff on the November ballot. |

Court of Appeals
Division Three, District Three
(Chelan, Douglas, Kittitas, Klickitat, and Yakima Counties)
District Three elects two judges; there will be no Court of Appeals elections in this district in 2010.
Superior Court
Klickitat and Skamania Counties constitute a single judicial district. Due to a vacancy on the bench caused by retirement, on July 28 the Governor appointed Brian Altman to fill the vacancy. The seat will immediately be up for election: There will be a special 3-day filing period August 23-25, and all candidates who file will appear on the November ballot. The candidate with the most votes in that election will win the position. There will not be a runoff election. This position will be on the ballot again in 2012.
District Court
District Court judges are elected to four-year terms, and all District Court positions are up for election in 2010.
There are two judicial districts in Klickitat County, each with one judge.
The East District race appeared on the Primary ballot, with three
candidates. Rick Hansen received over 50% of the vote, so he will appear
alone on the November ballot. In the West District, the incumbent judge is running for
re-election without opposition.
