George Appel for Superior Court judgePublished July 15, 2008 — An opening for judge in the Snohomish County Superior Court system puts voters in the role of judge: they get to decide who will rule on a variety of civil and criminal legal matters impacting not only their family, friends and neighbors, but possibly even themselves. George Appel is ready for the post. He has been senior deputy prosecuting attorney in Snohomish County for 15 years, dealing with misdemeanors and felonies, juvenile and adult all the way through the appeals process. He has been a judge pro tem (substitute on the bench) in Snohomish County District Court. There he presided over civil motions and small claims. As deputy prosecutor, Appel was involved with criminal cases, such as domestic violence, burglary, murder, drug dealing, juvenile crime and sex crimes. He appears regularly as Snohomish County Superior Court, taking more than 100 cases to juries. He also has been involved in many bench trials and has argued cases to the Court of Appeals. In the legal community, he is known for careful preparation, integrity and fairness. He is also famous for working long, hard hours. In the community at large, Appel is a Marysville YMCA board member, Snohomish County Bar Association board member, Sunday school teacher and church board member, and former teacher and instructor in criminal law programs and school classrooms. According to former Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Seth Dawson, Appel has already performed in a "quasi-judicial position because prosecutors are to seek justice, not just convictions." He is running for Position 6 on the court. Snohomish County voters will be well served by putting George Appel in this superior court judgeship post. — Dave Pinkham, Editor and Publisher | ||
