Spokane County Superior CourtPosition One
Current Occupation/Employer: Lawyer, Mark E. Vovos, Attorney at Law Education: Graduate Gonzaga School of Law, cum laude, Bachelor of Arts Political Science St. Ambrose University. Legal/Judicial Experience: Admitted to Washington Bar Association in 1968. Experienced arbitrator and mediator. Adjunct professor of litigation and dispute resolution, Gonzaga Law School. Elected to American College of Trial Lawyers (limited to top 1% of lawyers in any state). Family: Father of Mark Jr. and Athena. Twenty years as Spokane youth sports volunteer football coach. Significant Career Experience: Recipient of Wm O. Douglas Award by Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers “for extraordinary courage and dedication to the practice of criminal law.” Candidate Statement: Superior Court is where issues about the most important of human relationships are decided. While District Court judges hear minor infractions and small claims, a Superior Court judge must have the wisdom, experience, and legal knowledge to resolve significant civil cases involving important matters like probate, injury claims, business and contract matters, and divorces and child custody matters, and serious criminal cases ranging from simple felonies to death penalty cases involving the most heinous crimes. Experience handling these kinds of cases, and the wisdom experience brings, are the greatest strengths of the best Superior Court Judges I’ve observed in four decades of practice. A Superior Court judge must listen, rule properly and fairly on law and evidence, and must have integrity. I believe that my 40 years of experience in a great variety of civil and criminal cases has prepared me for service as a Superior Court Judge. I have tried over 100 civil and criminal cases in our county’s Superior Court, in cases ranging from multi-million dollar claims to high-profile criminal cases. I am experienced, knowledgeable, ready and eager to serve in the humble belief that my experience has best qualified me to do so. |
