Douglas Shepherd

Whatcom County Superior Court

Position Three

This race will be decided in the Primary Election.

Douglas Shepherd

Current Occupation/Employer: Lawyer with Shepherd Abbott Carter, Attorneys at Law.

Education: Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Rocky Mountain College in 1968. Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, in 1979 from Seattle University School of Law.

Legal/Judicial Experience: 28 years of experience as a trial attorney. Admitted to Washington State Bar in 1979. Admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Family: Married to Judith Tim Shepherd, one daughter and son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

Significant Career Experience: President of Whatcom County Bar Association, Board of Directors for Whatcom County Law Advocates, Board of Directors for Washington State Trial Lawyers Association.

Candidate Statement: As Superior Court Judge, I will respect and value the importance of each individual case; listen to and, more importantly, hear all who appear before me; and work hard to reach a just decision every time.

For more than 28 years, as a trial attorney, I have been privileged to serve and represent a large number of people struggling with very difficult circumstances. From each of them, I have learned the importance of the search for justice. For many, it is the only day in court they will ever have.

A trial judge needs to thoughtfully weigh all matters and issues presented to him or her. A trial judge needs to ensure all who appear in court are heard, understood, and respected. Wisdom comes with understanding and knowledge.

By filing for judge, I represent to you that I have lived long enough, studied hard enough, heard enough, seen enough, and learned enough to provide equal justice to all.
