CANDIDATE STATEMENT: As the daughter of an African-American father and Jewish mother who married when interracial marriage was illegal in many states, I learned early on the important values of due process, fairness, and equal justice for all. Experience that counts: Since 2001, I've served as a pro tem judge in King County Superior, District, and Municipal courts. I treat everyone with dignity and respect, make fair and easily understood decisions grounded in common sense, and without bias or prejudice. As a lawyer, I protected the rights of the underprivileged. As an intern deputy prosecutor, I helped crime victims obtain justice. I've tried hundreds of cases from misdemeanors to complex felonies. Community: I've volunteered thousands of hours in my community protecting abused children as board member for the Northwest Children's Fund, helping homeless and abused women, mentoring minority law students, and PTA. I ask for your vote. Broad-based endorsements from: King County Police Officers Guild, Women's Political Caucus; Mercer Island Firefighters; thirty-five judges, including nine Supreme Court and Court of Appeals judges; twenty-three elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, sole endorsement 33rd, 43rd legislative district Democrats.
