Current Occupation/Employer: King County Superior Court Commissioner and Judge Pro Tem. Education: Seattle’s Ingraham High School, University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law. Legal/Judicial Experience: King County Superior Court Commissioner and Judge Pro Tem since 1998. Lead Family Court Commissioner since 2005. Trial attorney in private practice specializing in family law, domestic violence protection, civil and criminal felony and misdemeanor cases. Family: Son of immigrant parents from Ukraine, one of three children. Significant Career Experience: In 1998 appointed by King County Superior Court judges to serve as a Superior Court Commissioner. Serving on Washington State Judicial College faculty training newly-appointed and elected judges throughout Washington. Candidate Statement: Les Ponomarchuk’s 10 years as a King County Superior Court Commissioner have uniquely prepared him for the many challenges faced by our elected judges. As a Superior Court Commissioner, Les is respected for his common sense justice that’s fair and practical. As a Superior Court Judicial candidate, Les Ponomarchuk has earned the highest rating – “Exceptionally Well Qualified” - by the King County Bar Association. He’s also been endorsed by over 20 current and retired judges, elected officials from both parties, the Seattle Police Management Association (Captains and Lieutenants), the King County Corrections Guild and the King County Court Protection Guild. A first-generation American, Les is the son of Ukrainian immigrants who first came to the United States because of the Nazi’s devastation of their homeland. As a child, Les developed his strong work ethic early in life working a variety of odd jobs. The lessons he learned about the value of hard work and volunteerism are lessons Les carries with him to this day. Les Ponomarchuk’s combination of judicial experience, community support, and his proven commitment to justice are exactly the qualities we need in our judges.
