Candidate Statement: Re-election time is my opportunity to help you know your judges and courts. The right to appeal is fundamental to justice. Three-judge panels of my court mainly review trial court appeals, deciding whether (1) trial facts fairly support outcomes, (2) trial judges have abused their discretion, and (3) trial judges have correctly interpreted and applied the law. The Supreme Court reviews our opinions only when request is granted. I believe every case is important, deserving high standards and hard work from patient, dignified, and courteous judges. I value independent, deliberative, and decisive judges who are competent and principled, and always seeking equal justice under the rule of law. Ideally, judges grow to be compassionate yet firm, consistent yet open-minded, and courageous yet cautious. I am inspired by these beliefs, standards, values, and ideals to maintain the remarkable public service tradition of the Washington courts. My aim, with your help, is to make a positive difference in the quality of life for my family, my community, and my State by continuing my service as a judge on the Court of Appeals. |
