Current Occupation/Employer: Judge, State of Washington Court of Appeals, Division 2. Legal/Judicial Experience: Eleven years as Appellate Court Judge, two years as Chief Judge. Author of over 1000 appellate decisions. Seven years as a King County Deputy Prosecutor. Eleven years as a municipal hearing office and Judge Pro-Tem. Significant Career Experience: Argued over 50 appeals before the Federal Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, and the Washington Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Conducts seminars on Legal Ethics and Open Government. Successfully prosecuted serious felonies including arson and murder. Education: Smith College, B.A., Wayne State University, JD with honors Family: Husband, retired Navy Chief; two sons. CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Experience: (Joyce) Robin Hunt has been twice elected to the Appellate Court. She is endorsed and widely praised by past governors, eleven past and present state Supreme Court justices, over twenty appellate judges, forty lower court judges, prosecutors, county commissioners, mayors and other public figures. She is known for her years of service and her devotion to the law. In 2008, Judge Hunt was rated "Exceptionally Well-Qualified" by the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys – their highest rating. Independence: Robin Hunt enjoys bipartisan support and serves no special interests. She respects the law and respects precedent. She often takes her court "on the road" to give young people, especially, the chance to see the state's legal system in action. Former Governor Gary Locke calls her "a champion of open government and an outstanding public servant with a heart for the law." Common Sense: A mom, a life-long musician and a former school board member, she brings sensitivity and years of community involvement to her role as a judge. Hunt is a mentor of young lawyers and a teacher. Former Governor John Spellman says she "exhibits the temperament and impartiality that Washingtonians have a right to expect from their Judiciary." |
