LEGAL/JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE: For the last twelve years, Judge Mary Kay Becker has been the Court of Appeals Judge in this position. She has served as chief of the statewide Court of Appeals and has been a pro tem justice on the State Supreme Court. Earlier, Judge Becker was a lawyer in private practice in Bellingham, representing people in a variety of matters from family law to complex trials. She was also a state legislator (1975-83), a member of the Whatcom County Council, and a Trustee for Western Washington University. She lives in Bellingham where she and her husband raised their two children.

Candidate Statement: Judge Mary Kay Becker asks for your vote to re-elect her to the Court of Appeals. “My life experience has taught me the importance of working hard and treating people with fairness and respect.” The Court of Appeals reviews proceedings in the lower courts to make sure trials are conducted according to law. Judge Becker’s many written decisions demonstrate that she is fair and balanced in her judgments. Her colleagues consistently choose her for leadership positions because of her common sense and her devotion to quality and good management. She is rated “Exceptionally Well Qualified” by bar groups.
