LEGAL/JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE: John O. Cooney is an attorney in
private practice focusing primarily in criminal defense, civil
administrative law, civil and criminal appeals, and the restoration of
civil rights. He has tried dozens of jury trials, tried numerous bench
trials, handled hundreds of civil administrative hearings, and has
lectured at CLE's on criminal law topics. He also has a small practice
in civil litigation and federal criminal cases.
Candidate Statement: John O. Cooney is a life resident of Spokane
and is married with four young children. He currently practices at the
Law Offices of John Cooney & Associates, P.S. John earned the highest
rating of "Exceptionally Well Qualified" for the District Court bench by
the Washington Women Lawyers. John Cooney has been endorsed by well over
twenty judges, the Washington State Patrol Trooper’s Association, the
Spokane County Sheriff Deputy’s Association, the Spokane Police Guild,
the Fraternal Order of Police, numerous prosecutors, defense attorneys,
and many unions including the Spokane Regional Labor Council. More
