Weekday on KUOW
State Supreme Court Election Special
Friday, September 15 — "Money is gushing into this year's Washington State Supreme Court
contests. Why? Who's backing whom? We'll take a close look at the issues
and ask whether these nonpartisan races are becoming too politicized. We
also meet the candidates for position 2. How will you decide? Is there a
better way to select judges?"
Guests:
- Judge Susan Owens was elected to serve on the
Washington State Supreme Court in 2000, after serving nineteen years
as District Court Judge in Western Clallam County.
- Stephen Johnson represents the 47th legislative
district (Kent, Auburn and surrounding areas). He is the ranking
Republican on the Judiciary Committee of the state Senate.
- Michael Johnson is a Seattle-based attorney who
specializes in guardianships for the developmentally disabled and in
elder law. He says "campaign contributions and endorsements are a
corrupting influence in elections" and that he "will not accept
money nor seek or use endorsements."

Washington State Bar Association who has served over 31 years as a
state Administrative Review Judge. He currently serves as the Chief
Administrative Review Judge for the Washington State Employment
Security.
