Legal/Judicial Experience: Defense attorney, 1986-present; Ferndale Municipal Prosecutor, 1996-present; Pro Tem Judge for Whatcom County Superior Court, Whatcom County District Court and Municipal Courts of Bellingham, Lynden, Blaine, Everson and Sumas.

Education: Graduate, Ferndale High School; Bachelor of Arts degree, Pacific Lutheran University; Juris Doctor degree, University of Puget Sound; Guardian ad litem training.

Community Service: Board President: Lydia Place, Evergreen AIDS Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters; President: Whatcom County Bar Association; Volunteer: Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children; Advisor: American Institute on Domestic Violence.

Statement: I was born and raised in Whatcom County. It has been my privilege to spend my entire career practicing in our District Court as a defense attorney, pro tem judge (District and Municipal courts), and—for 26 years—Ferndale's prosecutor. As a result, I fully understand the law and District Court procedures.

My thirty-five years of experience have given me unique insights into the issues we must confront as a county. Domestic violence, mental illness, and jail stressors are significant problems that must be dealt with to ensure our incredible community's health and safety. The courts must be creative in approaching these issues while maintaining accountability for offenders and compassion for victims.

I'm proud to be endorsed by Ferndale Mayor Greg Hansen, Fire Chief Larry Hoffman, Former WA State Bar Association President Rajeev Majumdar, Fire Commissioner and Detective Eric Grant, and many other community leaders. If the citizens of Whatcom County elect me, I will act ethically and honor the judicial oath. I will help create innovative solutions to deal with the challenges we face as a community.
