Kevin Kelly

Kitsap County District Court

Position Four

Legal Experience: BA Kent State University (1984). JD Cleveland Marshall College of Law (1988). Current Kitsap County District Court Judge, appointed June 30, 2017. Twenty-seven year Kitsap County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. Chief Deputy Prosecutor, District/Municipal Court Division (2015-2017), Senior Deputy Prosecutor, Administration Unit (2010-2015), and Felony Drug Unit (2006-2010).

Community Service: Current 20+ year active member of Rotary, Past President of Rotary Club of South Kitsap. Former Executive Board member of Kitsap Humane Society, graduate of Leadership Kitsap.

Statement: It has been my pleasure to serve the citizens of Kitsap County for nearly 30 years as a Deputy Prosecutor and now as a Kitsap County District Court Judge. I have had the good fortune over my career to appear before many outstanding judges, in cases ranging from simple assault and DUI to aggravated murder. I have learned what it means to be a fair and unbiased judge and how to listen with understanding and compassion.

I served for many years as the Drug Court Prosecutor and had a hand in the creation of the Veterans Treatment Court and later the Behavioral Health Court. I understand the Therapeutic Court model and the benefits it can have for the participant as well as the tax payer.

Ten years ago I volunteered to become a certified dog handler in order to bring the first Courthouse Dog, Kerris, to Kitsap County to ease the trauma experienced by some, often children, of appearing in court.

I am grateful to have been appointed to the bench and will continue to serve with integrity and distinction.

I am the proud father of three daughters and reside with my wife in South Kitsap.
