Legal/Judicial Experience: Incumbent, gubernatorial appointment.

Other Professional Experience: Current Spokane County Superior Court Judge in Position #6, former Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Spokane County, extensive criminal and civil trial experience, formed Identity Theft Taskforce, expertise in evidence-based sentencing alternatives, community leader in criminal justice strategic planning/reform, served on Spokane’s Public Safety Team, and former Spokane County Bar President (2015).

Education: Gonzaga University School of Law, JD with Honors; Gonzaga University, BA Political Science.

Community Service: Board Member of TeamGleason (nonprofit ALS organization), serves on WSU’s School of Medicine Steering Committee, and a recipient of the Salvation Army’s “Making Spokane Better” award.

Statement: Judge Hazel was born and raised in Spokane and has dedicated his entire career to public service. As a former Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for 14 years, Judge Hazel places priority on public safety, while protecting individual civil rights. Judge Hazel has a proven track record for treating all people with fairness, dignity, and respect, while upholding the rule of law and Constitutions of both the United States and Washington State.
